Gluten Free Family Afternoon Tea

Glenn and I invited Austin and Micheala for Sunday Afternoon Tea.

I prepared everything gluten free.

The table is set with a variety of English teacup trios of various violet patterns.

The Gluten Free Sandwiches Bottom Tier:

Cucumber, Pimiento Cheese, Egg Salad, Chicken Salad, 

and Olive Nut Cream Cheese Pinwheels

(All sandwich fillings were homemade)

Gluten Free Middle Tier: 

Blueberry Scones and Cinnamon Chip Scones

Served with Clotted Cream and Lemon Curd

Gluten Free Desserts on Top Tier:

I purchased Ethel's Gluten Free, Pecan Bars, Cinnamon Bars,

 and Turtle Bars  and Strawberries

Harney and Sons Chinese Silver Needle White Tea

Harney and Sons Decaf Earl Gray Black Tea

(Orange Pekoe and Bergamot Oil)

Red Blossom Tea Company Dragon Pear Jasmine Supreme (White Tea)

The English teapots are Sadler, Royal Patrician and Regency.

We enjoyed our visit and drank many cups of tea! 

Easter Sunday with Family

Easter morning the SIL, Tim, delivered delicious gluten free cinnamon rolls for breakfast.  We attended online church from home and went to daughter Melissa's for lunch. My contribution was deviled eggs and southern corn pudding.  Easter Sunday was a beautiful day in Kentucky.

Peyton, our youngest grandson, is sixteen.  Oh, my! 

Teapot Game

 I purchased this Teapot Game years ago at a National Trust shop in England.

Kaitlyn and I played it several times when she was younger, but she's 18 and no longer interested in  tea party games with her Grandma.

My great-niece, three-year old Kennedy, spent the day with me last Friday while her dad, my nephew, played in a golf tournament with Glenn and Tim.  We played "tea party" in all sorts of ways, including dressed in a tiara and a tutu. (I should have taken more photos!)

However, when Austin came in, he was far more fun to play with than me!

Time for a Change

Today, May 9th, a big change happened in my life.

Many of my friends know I have been regent of the

Berea-Laurel Ridges Chapter, NSDAR. 

I reached the six consecutive year limit as set by the

National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR).

I will serve as the chapter treasurer, the office I held for four years prior

to my two three-year terms as chapter regent.

I am a 20-year member of DAR.

I am very pleased Melissa and Kaitlyn share the DAR journey with me.

My Aunt Ida was the first family member to join DAR. 

She was a very special member of our family and we are happy to follow in her footsteps.

Busy Birthday Weekend

What a busy weekend we had! 

Saturday was the most controversial Kentucky Derby in history.

We had friends and family over for a casual get-together,

 but I was too busy to remember to take photos.

Sunday was Kaitlyn's 18th birthday, Berea College graduation and

Cinco de Mayo. 

A delicious lemon flavored gluten free cake.

Can you tell sunflowers are her favorite flower?

 She signed her Daughters of the American Revolution application.

And, she/we received a long "happy birthday" video call from Austin in Germany.

What a fun and busy weekend!

 

Keeneland in the Spring

 Keeneland, opened in 1936 and includes the Keeneland Racecourse, a Thoroughbred horse racing facility, and a sales complex, both in Lexington, Kentucky. 

They hold a spring and fall meet of only a few weeks.

The Keeneland 2019 Spring meet ran April 4 - 26. 

Melissa, Glenn and I attended with a group of Berea College alumni on April 24th.

The top photo includes Melissa, me, Robert, Huie and Glenn, all BC alumni.

Huie works at Keeneland and is dressed in the Keeneland uniform.

 It was a beautiful spring day in Kentucky.

The spring meet leads up to the Kentucky Derby,

the first Saturday in May.  The 2019 fall meet will be October 4 - 26.

 

 



Family

This is most of our family celebrating Easter Sunday with a wonderful church service and brunch

at Historic Boone Tavern Hotel at Berea College.

Austin is in Regensburg, Germany for a five-month study abroad program.
And yes, we miss him terribly!
