 Afternoon Tea at The Drake in Chicago

on Sunday afternoon, October 13th.

Our three-tiered server was arranged differently than we had

experienced, but it was a good idea for two gluten free and one

regular afternoon tea.  Each of us had a separate plate, gluten free plates

were on the top and bottom and the regular one for Glenn was

on the middle tier.

 

 

 

 

 

 



Afternoon Tea in Chicago

We went to Chicago for Austin's fall break.

I had made advance reservations for Saturday afternoon tea at

the Peninsula Hotel in The Lobby Restaurant and Sunday at the Drake Hotel.

We attended Hamilton on Saturday night.

I thought we would reserve Monday for sightseeing, therefore no tea reservations.

Well, my guys enjoyed afternoon tea at the Peninsula so much on Saturday

that they made reservations for Monday. 

Austin rated it the "best gluten free afternoon tea he ever had."

Yes, it was the same menu both times, but I'll never complain if these guys want to

schedule afternoon tea.

Grosvenor House Afternoon Tea

Our fifth, and final afternoon tea in London during our March visit

was for my birthday at the JW Marriott Grosvenor House Hotel on Park Lane

across from Hyde Park in Mayfair.

My gluten free tea server is on the left

 Delicious and beautiful!

 



These savories were on gluten free corn muffins.





Afternoon Tea at the Browns Hotel

 

This week I am posting a review of our afternoon teas in London in March 2019.

The Brown's Hotel in London had been on my list for quite some time.
The tea room is very traditional with dark wood paneling.  

The contemporary rose patterned china is by Wedgwood.

 

My gluten free sandwiches are on the top tier and

Glenn's gluten-filled sandwiches are on the middle and bottom tiers.

Yes, gluten-filled is our "made-up" term to distinguish his food from my gluten free.

Second-helpings of sandwiches were offered.

My sandwiches were very good

 His were a little more artistic than the GF.

 

The scones and sweets were served on four levels,

with his on the bottom two.

Notice the monogramed napkin on the scones.

 My sweets were on the top tier.

 



Afternoon Tea at the Whitby Hotel

 When I searched for Gluten Free Afternoon Tea in NYC,

I found the contemporary, small Whitby Hotel on 56th Street at 5th Ave.

 The china, designed by Kit Kemp is the "Sailor's Farewell" pattern.

The menu is posted above.

 Glenn's tea looked amazing

The other option was the gluten free/vegan afternoon tea,

but the server brought Austin and I clotted cream when we requested it.



 

The scones look dark in color, but they were not overcooked.

They were a spiced flavor.



 I don't have photos, but we attended Tootsie that evening

at the Marquis Theatre.
