The Order To Serve Afternoon Tea Courses

The proper order of tea courses is often a topic of debate.
I was taught to serve the three course afternoon tea in the order shown here:
1.  Bottom tier (first course) Sandwiches and Savories
2.  Middle tier (second course) Scones with Clotted or Devonshire
Cream and Jam
3.  Top tier (third course) Pastries and Sweets
A few examples in photos below:

  1. This is very helpful and also it makes sense to get from the bottom up to the top!!!

  2. To eat - not "get" although that works too! Ha!

  4. That makes sense! Although, since scones are my favorite, I sometimes snag one of them first, then go back to the sandwiches and savories. :-) But the next time I serve tea, I'll put things in the correct order.

  5. Absolutely perfect! Even if I am served it in a different way...that’s how I eat it! Lol!

  6. Thank you for sharing this information with us, Linda! The photos of you and your hubby sharing teatime were so sweet. Also, thank you for your visit to my group tea party post.

  7. I'm not sure I told you this, but when I was writing a tea scene in my novel, I consulted *your* blog to double-check that I was listing everything in the proper order! I've had the courses served in every order imaginable, but yours is the one I like best! :)
